Former Global television reporter Domenic Fazioli was acquitted of all charges Thursday stemming from an alleged domestic incident in April.
Fazioli was facing four charges, including uttering a death threat and assault with a weapon.
“The crown had no evidence to offer and we were not even at a trial stage,” Fazioli’s lawyer Franco Schiro said after the acquittal.
Schiro said his client, who no longer works at Global, was relieved to be acquitted but had suffered in the court of public opinion.
“This ordeal has caused him to be a victim, not of the judicial system but of being a professional. Certain colleagues and certain people were quick to make negative judgements.
“His life gets ruined, sorry to say, both on a personal and professional basis very quickly. The presumption of innocence is almost non-existent the way things happen.”
