David clearly didn’t have much family support when he went down to practically help them on the battle field. This young shepherd boy brings food and supplies to his brothers as the Israelites camp out in battle against the Philistines.
(1 Samuel 17)  He’s so stirred by how Goliath is goading and mocking his God he has to speak out. When his oldest brother hears him Eliab says this,
“Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” V 28
