This weekend, we celebrate the 4th of July holiday. As for myself, I am back in Chicago celebrating my mother’s 90th birthday as well. Everyone is looking forward to the bar-b-que and spending time with family and friends. There will be parades, fireworks, and fun times at home or the beach. The “traditional” Fourth of July celebrations.
During the city or town’s celebrations, there will be “tributes” to the “heroes” who have defended our freedoms. There will be thousands of “thank you for your service” to veterans. That will all be very nice. However, we will all forget those veterans who won’t be standing in line at the parade.
It is estimated that approximately 4 million veterans are homeless. Unemployment for veterans is still extremely high. Many veterans who are not homeless are in need of other assistance like SNAP. Things are very dire for too many of our veterans.
