Sometimes we don’t realise what we as women avoid doing out of fear because it’s already normal for us. Some things we don’t question because they’re internalised in our minds as just normal. It’s obvious that as a woman you shouldn’t walk alone at night on the street, right? But why does it have to be like that? For instance, why do we teach our girls “be careful, don’t get raped” instead of teaching our boys “don’t rape”? If real equality would be achieved, women would not have to fear their safety when walking on the street at night alone.
A study asked women what women avoid doing because of fear for their own safety, read the answers here.
The one that upsets me the most is number 5: Travel solo, because there are certain places where it’s just not safe to be a woman traveling alone
